Marty Nightengale - Music

We have heard good things about Marty Nightengale so we made sure to catch him last week at Pappy’s Corner Pub and we’re glad we made the effort. Marty hails from New York and prides himself in having played 150 shows a year for the past 10 years. The good news is, he is now a resident of Northern Colorado and can be seen and heard all over town.

Marty’s song choices were driven by blues, pop, rock and some contemporary sounds. He did unique acoustic covers like “What’s up” by Four Non-blonds, “Crash” by Dave Mathews Band and an impressive version of “Devil Went Down to Georgia” by Charlie Daniels! The nice thing about his set-list is it comes from the crowd directly, courtesy of a song book he passes around.

Pappy’s Corner Pub was packed and kept filling up with people from all age groups as the night went on. All seemed to enjoy Marty’s performance and even chatted with him while he took breaks. The nice thing about his performance was his interactions with the crowd and how he made everyone feel like they were buddies hanging out. All in all he is a charming and amazingly talented performer, and people appreciate him for the sake of being himself.

Gypsy Fit - Music

It seems you can’t go anywhere in Northern Colorado these days without hearing the band Gypsy Fit or at least some of them. Although they only formed in 2010, they have been getting a lot of stage time locally,  playing places like Hodi’s Half Note, Equinox Brewing, Lucky Joes, Hatrixx and Road 34. We recently saw two of the members doing an acoustic set at East Coast in Fort Collins.

Their influences are obvious in the covers they choose; Sublime, Bob Marley, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Dave Mathews and Incubus, to name a few. Gypsy Fit,  in it’s entirety, can bring in a decent sized crowd and the members like to mingle with the crowd during breaks , making new fans and friends. They do have several of their own songs and do play some originals, but we have been unable to find any actual albums they have put out.

These guys are decent musicians and are good at what they do, but tend to be redundant. Their set lists tend to be very predictable and could use a few more eclectic covers, rather then their cliché choices. Their facebook does say they are currently taking a break but hopefully they are working on some new play-lists and an album.
