The Drunken Monkey is yet another theme bar located in the old town area. We have dropped by this place several times for cheap drinks and compulsive swinging (on swings) at the bar. It’s definitely not the worst bar or the best in old town, but a good starting point.

Atmosphere:  Upon entering the place you will notice the seating at the bar are hanging swings. Yes these are actual swings and your only option for seating at the bar. There are tables in the bar area and on the patio as well as upstairs. The décor is a jungle theme but not so over the top that you forget it’s a bar. The lighting is dim both upstairs and down. There is a good size patio off the front of the downstairs bar area for people watching on College Ave. The place seemed clean and the bathrooms were in good shape as well. There was top 40 music playing just loud enough to hear but also carry on a conversation.  We visited early in the evening before the fresh livers from CSU flooded in, so the bar was a little empty.  This is not the case on most weekend nights, when it fills with a young crowd getting their dance on.

Service:  The service was good and the bartender was friendly enough.

Drinks:  The same beer taps you will find all over Fort Collins.  A couple New Belgium’s, a couple O’Dell’s, and the usual light domestics.  They have a specialty margarita called “The Snakebite” that is both strong and cheap.  It is supposedly made from Jose Cuervo, although our drinks where poured from a large plastic container that looked like it had been there from the weekend before, so it could have been anything. But at $3 you get what you pay for.

Food:  There is a one page menu offering everything from appetizers, burgers, sandwiches and Mexican food. There is nothing over $8.50 except the small selection of entrees for around $10.

Amenities:  Covered patio in front, stage in downstairs bar, dance floor in upstairs area, pool tables, TV’s, Jukebox

Parking:  Parking available where you can find it in old town.

The Buzz:  Wednesday karaoke night, Thursday night 18 and over, DJ on Friday nights, Happy Hour from noon to 8 pm on Saturday & Sunday, Sunday $5 beer and burger, Monday half off drink tab.
